How given: by mouth (PO), intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM) (rarely)
Uses: Treatment of seizures, relief of anxiety, ICU sedation, conscious sedation for ICU procedures, pre-operative sedation, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, relief of acute musculoskeletal pain, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
Comment: Used to treat seizures as initial therapy. Also useful in the ICU for sedation. Most often given as an IV form as needed. May also be given as a continuous infusion.
