In the ICU, you have access to ICU doctors and nurses, as well as other hospital staff, to assist and guide you in making decisions about the patient's care.
You are probably also provided with much loving support by family members and friends visiting the ICU.
However, after the ICU, you may need to make equally important decisions, such as determining whether or not you can provide adequate home care, making personnel decisions for home care support, or selecting a nursing home for your loved one - often with little guidance or assistance.
Like anything else in life, lack of knowledge and inexperience are likely to mean that at best the results will be frustrating and inefficient. At worst, you may make decisions detrimental to the health and quality of life of the patient and other family members.
We do not have all the answers regarding post-ICU options - only you do. What we do provide in After the ICU includes:
Questions you need to consider
Resources for assistance in making such decisions
Information about products and services available
It is important that you carefully consider your resources and options. Decisions can be altered and circumstances will undoubtedly change over time, however, in all cases sound information will enable you to make superior decisions.
The After the ICU portion of our website will continually be expanded to meet the needs of our users.
