Robert W. Taylor, MD, FCCM, FCCP

Dr. Taylor is widely recognized as an authority in critical care education. He has been in critical care practice and directed physician critical care training programs for 20 years. Dr. Taylor's research interests include respiratory failure and hemodynamic monitoring. He is widely published in these areas. Another career focus has been educational methods in critical care. He has won teaching awards in four academic institutions over the past two decades. Dr. Taylor is co-editor of the comprehensive textbook Critical Care. This book is considered one of the most complete and authoritative works on the field of critical care and is used widely as a study guide by many critical care training programs. Dr. Taylor has edited 17 other books on critical care topics. He has published numerous original scientific investigations on various topics in critical care. Dr. Taylor is a graduate of St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. He a Clinical Professor and Director of the Critical Care Residency Program at St. Louis University and St. John's Mercy Medical Center. Dr. Taylor is a past President of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and has served on the governing council of this organization for the past decade. His primary focus with this academic society is quality improvement in critical care.
Thomas Ahrens, DNS, RN, CS, FAAN

Dr. Ahrens is a noted authority in critical care, specializing in the clinical areas of hemodynamic monitoring and oxygenation. He is a practicing clinical nurse specialist with 24 years experience. Dr. Ahrens is an exceptional clinical researcher and speaker, whose work emphasizes cost control strategies for critical care, survival prediction during cardiopulmonary arrest, appropriate use of critical care technology and the value of advanced practice nurses. He has recently been appointed the Executive Editor of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses' National Critical Care Program. As a respected author, his book, Hemodynamic Waveform Analysis is considered by many to be the finest clinical guide to the topic. His book, Essentials of Oxygenation was selected as an American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year. He is the primary author of over 40 scientific publications. He serves on several editorial boards and is a National Institutes of Health grant reviewer. Dr. Ahrens is recipient of the 1999 Society of Critical Care Medicine Presidential Citation Award and the 1999 American Association of Critical Care Nurses research award for work on ICU sedation management.
